We hope you will join us for this relaxing and inspiring weekend.  Come and find your muse in this quiet country setting along the Delaware River where you can hone your craft and share the journey with other writers and illustrators of books for children.  Along with the new venue, this year we have  a few new twists in our traditional schedule:

Two-day Schedule — We have packed Friday and Saturday with some fabulous workshops, critique opportunities, and small group time.  We encourage you to spend Saturday night at the Inn as well, and join us for the Author's Panel and Brunch on Sunday morning.

Conference Fee: 
  • SCBWI Members (Full weekend)      $125.00
  • SCBWI Members (Saturday Only)     $105.00
  • Non Members (Full weekend)            $145.00
  • Non Members (Saturday Only)           $130.00
 
*NOTE:  Hotel accommodations are NOT included in the conference fee.  See the Accommodations page for more information.  SATURDAY ONLY attendees are subject to the Shawnee Inn's day rate of $99.25 to cover meals and facility fees.

COMMUTERS are also responsible for the meals and facility fees ($130.05 for Friday and Saturday).  Please be sure inform the conference director, Mary Ann Scott, if you are commuting to the conference.

First Pages — Editors will critique 5-8 first pages in an open panel on Friday afternoon.  Submission requirements:
  • One first page per attendee
  • Do NOT put your name on your manuscript.
  • Double space, 12-point font.
  • DO put the genre at the top of the page

First Look/Illustrators *new*— Along with First Pages, Editors will be offering a first response to a limited number of illustrations.  Submission requirements: 

  • One illustration per attendee
  • Do NOT put your name on the illustration
  • Electronic submissions only
  • Save the image as a JPEG and email it to Mary Ann Scott and type FIRST LOOK in the subject line.
DEADLINE FOR FIRST PAGES AND FIRST LOOK:  FEBRUARY 25, 2010.


Intensive Author/Illustrator Forums — These small groups comprised according to genre/age level will meet twice during the weekend and will be moderated by a published writer or illustrator.  It will be a great place to ask those genre-specific questions and share your experiences.  Be sure to include your genre(s) on your registration form.
 
Silent Auction/Raffle — Donations to the auction and raffle generate scholarship funds to sponsor selected attendees based on need and quality of work to upcoming conferences and retreats.  The silent auction will showcase a variety of items available for bidding until 6:00pm Saturday. Raffle items often include books, but feel free to use your imagination and get creative for both the auction and the raffle.  If you would like to donate, but cannot make it to the retreat, please contact Hallee Adleman at hzaz@aol.com or (610) 645-6565
